ADHD Assessment at Medprime
Our ADHD Assessment Process
1. Initial Medical Review
Your first appointment involves a detailed medical review to discuss your concerns, symptoms, medical history and whether proceeding with a formal ADHD assessment is appropriate.
If appropriate, you will then progress to the comprehensive assessment stage.
2. ADHD Questionnaires and Supporting Information
Before your assessment, you may be asked to complete validated ADHD questionnaires and provide relevant supporting information.
Depending on age and individual circumstances, this may include information from:
Parents or caregivers
Partners or family members
School reports
Teachers
Previous psychologists or psychiatrists
Previous medical records
Other treating health professionals
3. Comprehensive ADHD Assessment
A dedicated extended appointment is used to explore ADHD symptoms in detail.
The assessment considers:
Current symptoms
Childhood symptoms and developmental history
Inattention
Hyperactivity and impulsivity
Executive functioning
Emotional regulation
Impact on work, education, relationships and daily life
Mental health history
Sleep
Medical history
Current medications
Other conditions that may cause or contribute to similar symptoms
The aim is to determine whether your symptoms are consistent with ADHD and whether another condition may better explain, or be contributing to, your difficulties.
4. Diagnosis and Management Plan
Following assessment, your doctor will discuss the findings with you and develop an individual management plan where appropriate.
Management may include a combination of:
ADHD education
Behavioural strategies
Psychological therapy
Cognitive behavioural therapy
Lifestyle strategies
Sleep management
Support for study or workplace functioning
Medication, where clinically appropriate
Management of associated medical or mental health conditions
Treatment recommendations are individualised to each patient.

What Should I Provide Before My Appointment?
If you have already been diagnosed with ADHD, providing your previous medical information before your appointment can help our doctors assess whether continuation care is appropriate.
Where available, please provide:
Your ADHD diagnostic report
Psychiatrist or paediatrician correspondence
Details of your current medication and dose
Previous treatment history
Relevant pathology or investigation results
Recent blood pressure, pulse, height and weight measurements
Relevant medical history
Contact details for your previous treating clinician
Our team will advise you if additional information is required.
ADHD Care That Looks Beyond ADHD
ADHD management is not simply about medication.
Our doctors also consider your broader physical and mental health, including conditions that can influence ADHD symptoms or treatment.
This may include:
Anxiety
Depression
Sleep difficulties
Autism spectrum disorder
Learning difficulties
Substance use
Cardiovascular health
Weight and nutrition
Other medical conditions
Other medications you may be taking
Where appropriate, we can work alongside psychologists, psychiatrists, paediatricians and other healthcare professionals.
ADHD Assessment for Children Aged 8+
ADHD can present differently in children and adults.
Children may experience difficulties with attention, organisation, following instructions, completing schoolwork, emotional regulation, impulsivity or excessive activity.
Our doctors consider information from the child and family together with relevant school and developmental information.
Depending on the individual child, additional assessment or input from a paediatrician, psychologist, school or other health professional may also be recommended.
Adult ADHD Assessment
Many adults reach adulthood without having ADHD recognised earlier in life.
Some have developed strategies that helped them manage symptoms through school but find increasing difficulties as the demands of university, employment, relationships, parenting or everyday responsibilities increase.
Common concerns include:
Chronic procrastination
Difficulty starting or completing tasks
Poor time management
Frequently losing or forgetting things
Difficulty maintaining concentration
Becoming easily distracted
Feeling overwhelmed by competing tasks
Impulsive decision-making
Restlessness
Difficulty managing routines
Problems with organisation
Emotional reactivity
A comprehensive assessment considers both your current difficulties and whether symptoms were present during childhood.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can Medprime diagnose ADHD?
Yes. We provide structured ADHD assessment for eligible children aged 8 years and over, adolescents and adults.
Whether a diagnosis can be made will depend on the information obtained during your assessment and whether the relevant diagnostic criteria are met.
I already have an ADHD diagnosis. Do I need another full assessment?
Not necessarily.
If you have an established diagnosis and adequate documentation from your previous treating clinician from within Australia, you may be suitable for our continuation care pathway.
Your doctor will review your documentation and individual circumstances before determining the appropriate next step.
Can Medprime continue my existing ADHD medication?
For eligible patients, continuation medication management may be available following medical review and confirmation that the relevant clinical and regulatory requirements have been met.
Continuation is not automatic and remains subject to assessment by the treating doctor.
What if I don't have my old ADHD report?
Please contact our team before booking or attending your appointment.
We may ask you to obtain records from your psychiatrist, paediatrician, previous GP or other treating clinician.
If sufficient documentation cannot be obtained, further assessment may be required.
Will medication always be recommended after an ADHD assessment?
No.
An ADHD assessment does not guarantee a diagnosis or medication treatment.
Any treatment recommendation is based on your clinical assessment, individual circumstances, potential benefits and risks, and the doctor's clinical judgement.
Do you treat conditions other than ADHD?
Yes.
Medprime is a general medical practice. This allows ADHD care to be considered alongside your broader physical and mental health needs.
